Arts and crafts items can be the most fantastic gift for a loved person. If you are good at crafts, you can spare a thought to design some easy to make attractive gifts.
Arts and Crafts Items Make Very Good Gifts
You would always want to give the best gift to the person you love. If it is for your boyfriend or girl friend you would love to give him/her something warm and special. No matter what you gift, try to gift something which would take him/her by absolute surprise. The best way out is to gift something original. Arts and crafts items make very good gifts. There just cannot be other gifts which can help reflect your tastes better. Before a person buys such a gift he/she sees how appropriate it is for the occasion. Thus it talks a lot about your sense of attachment.
Paperweights: a Collector’s Item
Glass paperweights are produced throughout the world and classed as fine pieces of art. Paperweights are collected and frequently included in museum exhibitions for fine glass art. Glass paperweights consist entirely of glass and are usually limited editions or custom made by a factory, artist or glass engraver. Paperweights can be dated back to 1845 when they were first produced in France; however their popularity died down until the middle of the 20th century when they became a popular collector’s item once more.
Glass paperweights that are decorative are easy to hold in the hand and supposed to be viewed from various angles through the dome – the dome acting like a lens that reveals attractive designs, changing and augmenting them. Often a magnifying glass is used to appreciate the fine detailed artwork within the paperweight.
The base of a paperweight is usually flat or concave yet rests comfortably. The top of the paperweight is domed and can be cut or faceted. The paperweight can also be coated with a few thin layers of coloured glass with windows cut in to enable a view of the interior design. The base of a paperweight is usually polished but can be frosted. The inner parts of the paperweight rest on ground that can be clear, coloured, made of unfused sand or latticinio (resembles lace.)
Paperweights can be inexpensive or expensive depending on their collectability, the materials they are made from and their rarity. The four things that determine the value of a paperweight are: design, rarity, workmanship and condition.
Factories or artists that create and design paperweights often design other pieces of glass art such as glass trophies , glass ornaments and glassware.
